On Tuesday of next week I will be honored to accept the Tampa Bay Lightning Community Hero award for my work with the Bring Smiles to Seniors program. While this is an incredible honor for me and I am humbled to receive it, I know deep down in my heart that there is no way I could have accomplished what we have done to date without the help of an amazing number of people.
First and foremost is my team. These five incredible ladies: Linda, Renee, Becky, Diane and Liane are the backbone of what we do. They took a chance and became part of an unknown program because they believed in the power of good and the effect that they could have on the lives of so many. Add to that the donors, card decorators, card artists that all ensure that we have a steady supply of cards to seniors. In addition, the schools, civic groups and now corporate participants that hold decorating events for us. When you put those all together you start to get the picture of something truly amazing.
I told my team, all unpaid volunteers, that there is no “I” in “teamwork”. Our success is a direct reflection on what they all contribute and we together contribute as a whole. There is something magical about this whole process of bringing smiles to seniors that is contagious, worthy and very much needed. People want to naturally be a part of something amazing and that is exactly what we have done in the last two and a half years.
The beauty is with this honor, not only do we benefit, but others in the non-profit community benefit as well. In addition to Bring Smiles to Seniors, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, ALS, and A.F.I.R.E of Pasco County will all reap the benefits of this reward. It is all part of the circle of caring for those in need and making sure that we make a difference in the world.
Next Tuesday when I stand in the spotlight, it will not be just me, but each and every one of you who participate and support our mission. We truly do Bring Smiles to Seniors, one card, one smile at a time.
Have a great day and remember to be the reason someone smiles.
